It is the first time Maria de Jong shows her stone sculptures to the “outside world”.It is as if now the time is right to show her sculpting qualities; as if in this theater the curtain rises for Maria.
This outside world, or as you may call it, this theater, is the beautiful and historic building “de Waag” where the artists association KZOD ("Kunst Zij Ons Doel" – Art is our aim) warmly welcomes Maria de Jong. She and her sculptures are "at home".
Maria has worked privately for several years intensively with stones. Since I know her she is fascinated by the forms of nature and worked with them.
Now she has become a professional sculptor who works fully dedicated with the forms and structure of this beautiful material.
Maria de Jong has found her own style, mostly by following her instinct. She understands the meaning of the various types of stone: she “listens to and feels” the potential of each stone. At one the lines are highlighted, the other has to be opened to let the light shine through, and sometimes the contour of the stone has to be given a rhythmical element.
She knows perfectly how to get the shape, the lucidity and warmth in focus, so each spectator can sympathize with her sculptures.
In every detail it’s worth to view and consider the enhanced beauty of nature.
